AUGUSTA, Ga. (BFMG) — One person was killed in an active shooter incident Saturday morning at Fort Eisenhower, a U.S. Army installation in Augusta. The alleged shooter was quickly apprehended, and the post has declared the situation under control.
The base was placed on lockdown just before 9 a.m., following an alert issued by the operations center at Fort Eisenhower.
“Execute lock down procedures on the installation immediately! If you are in danger take appropriate action,” read the urgent message posted on social media.
Less than an hour later, officials lifted the lockdown and stated that “the dangerous event had passed.”
According to authorities, the shooting occurred in on-post housing. The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was fatally shot. Officials described the incident as isolated and have not disclosed a possible motive.
“Fort Eisenhower is actively supporting the victim’s family and assistance will be available to anyone impacted by this tragedy. The safety of our residents and personnel remains our primary concern,” officials said in a statement.
The installation, previously named Fort Gordon, is home to the United States Army Cyber Command.
Officials have not provided additional details about the suspect or their connection to the victim.
