JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (BFMG) — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says the body found about 8:45 a.m. Monday near the area where 18-year-old Nolan Xavier Wells was reported missing on Saturday has now been confirmed to be Wells.
The Jackson County coroner was on scene Monday morning working to identify the body. Authorities say the body recovered matches Nolan Wells’ physical description and the clothing he was last seen wearing. His grandfather also confirmed on Facebook that Nolan has been found deceased.
Wells was last seen July 4 on Horn Island, according to the sheriff’s office. He was wearing blue swim trunks and sunglasses. Deputies say he is described as a 6-foot-1 Black man weighing about 180 pounds.
The sheriff’s office said deputies are searching Horn Island with assistance from the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources, the Gulf Islands National Seashore and the U.S. Coast Guard. Authorities have reestablished a command post at the Lake Mars boat launch in Ocean Springs.
Anyone with information about Wells is asked to call the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at 228-769-3063.
