LITTLE RIVER, S.C. (BFMG) — Eleven people were injured Saturday night in a shooting that occurred during a Memorial Day weekend gathering aboard a charter boat docked on Watson Avenue in Little River, according to the Horry County Police Department.
Authorities confirmed that 10 individuals sustained gunshot wounds, while another suffered a non-gunfire-related injury. Several of the injured remain hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
Horry County Fire Rescue transported multiple victims to area hospitals, while others reportedly arrived by personal vehicles.
Investigators said the incident appears to have stemmed from an argument or altercation during a private gathering on the vessel. The boat was docked at the time of the shooting. Detectives continue working to identify the individual or individuals responsible.
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” the department stated in an updated release late Saturday night. “At this time, the shooting is believed to be an isolated incident. There is no ongoing threat to the community.”
Officials ask the public to avoid the area and continue to rely on trusted sources, including the Horry County Police Department Facebook page and local news outlets, for verified updates. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
