ATLANTA (BFMG) — Atlanta police are investigating a fake 911 call that sent officers to the Buckhead home of television legal analyst Nancy Grace late Tuesday night in what appears to be a swatting incident.
According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded around 10:25 p.m. April 22 to a report of a shooting at a residence. The caller claimed that a friend had shot someone and said he would be waiting at the scene to speak with officer according to 11Alive.
When police arrived, they found no caller, victim or evidence of a shooting. Attempts to contact the individual who placed the 911 call were unsuccessful.
Officers made contact with the residents of the home, who were unharmed. The homeowner, not publicly named by police but listed in public records as Grace, told officers the incident may have been a swatting attempt due to her high-profile career.
Swatting is a criminal act in which someone falsely reports an emergency to provoke a heavy law enforcement response to another person’s address.
Grace, a former Fulton County prosecutor, rose to national prominence as a television legal commentator and crime analyst. She is known for her outspoken approach and continues to appear in media covering legal and criminal cases.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing and the caller has not been identified.
