CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BFMG) — Authorities have confirmed the discovery of the body of a missing Greenville County woman in Charlotte.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Tuesday that 22-year-old Ta-Haley Payton, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, was found dead Monday in the 1100 block of Baxter Street.
Payton was reported missing on Nov. 20, just one day after her 22nd birthday. Family members said she traveled to Charlotte on Nov. 19 with her boyfriend to celebrate. However, her boyfriend returned to the Greenville area without her, family members told investigators according to WHNS.
According to Payton’s family, her boyfriend called her mother on the morning of Nov. 20, saying he was leaving Charlotte and that she would need to pick up her daughter. Later that day, Payton called her mother from a pub, expressing that she felt unsafe and planned to walk to a nearby Burger King. Her mother urged her to wait while she arranged for a Lyft or Uber to pick her up.
Hours later, Payton texted her family, saying a friend was coming to get her. That ride never arrived, and she was not heard from again.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating her death.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the department’s homicide unit at (704) 432-TIPS.
