RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C.(BFMG) — Authorities in Richland County are intensifying their search for Zelig Williams, a professional dancer known for his roles in Broadway’s Hamilton and MJ The Musical, who has been missing since Oct. 3 according to FITS News. Williams, who lives with his family on the 400 block of Longview Road, was last seen leaving his home at 9:50 a.m. that day.
Williams’ vehicle was found in Congaree National Park, specifically in a hiking area near the Wateree Passage. Authorities report that his cell phone, which transmitted an SOS alert to his family indicating a possible accident, was left behind. Despite the alert, officials found no visible damage to the car. Master Deputy Allie Salrin of Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD) has stated that Williams is without basic necessities, including his required medication, and has classified his case as a missing person investigation with potential foul play, meaning all evidence is being considered in his disappearance.
The local community has rallied to assist in the search efforts. On Oct. 7, residents gathered to organize search parties, though the RCSD has urged caution due to high water levels in Congaree National Park. They stressed the challenging conditions and advised volunteers to be mindful of the potentially hazardous terrain.
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) has also been involved, providing additional resources to aid the search across the sprawling national park. Authorities describe the investigation as “fluid and active,” with search teams and investigators exploring various leads.
According to posts on Williams’ Facebook page, he recently conducted a “Redemption: Broadway Boot Camp ’24” workshop on Sept. 27 and 28 at Palmetto Performing Arts. Those who may have communicated with him around that time are encouraged to come forward with any relevant information.
Williams’ disappearance has gained national attention, with actor Hugh Jackman and major news outlets amplifying the case. Law enforcement is appealing to the public for any information that might lead to locating Williams. Tips can be submitted anonymously through Midlands Crimestoppers by calling 1-888-CRIME-SC or directly to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities urge anyone with information regarding Williams’ whereabouts or who may have had recent contact with him to come forward, hoping for his safe return as the investigation continues.
