FAIRFIELD, Calif. (BFMG) — Police say they suspect foul play in the disappearance of a 36-year-old Fairfield woman who has been missing for five weeks, though investigators have not identified a suspect.
Chantel Brooks disappeared July 17 after leaving work in San Francisco, according to the Fairfield Police Department (FPD). During a news conference Monday, Lt. Michelle Belyea said detectives believe foul play may have played a role in Brooks’ disappearance because of the length of time she has been out of contact with relatives and friends, along with other information developed during the investigation.
“Detectives do suspect foul play has led to Chantel’s disappearance,” Belyea said.
Police have conducted multiple ground and aerial searches and spent about 500 hours investigating the case, but no suspect had been identified as of Monday afternoon.
Belyea also addressed social media posts that have named a person as being responsible for Brooks’ disappearance.
“At this time, detectives have not identified a suspect in this case,” she said.
Brooks was last seen about 1:45 a.m. July 17 leaving a CVS store on East Travis Boulevard in Fairfield and walking through the parking lot toward her black Infiniti QX50 SUV.
Her brother, Kevin Robinson, said Brooks’ phone location was turned off while she was in the CVS parking lot.
Robinson said relatives, friends and members of the community continue to hope for Brooks’ safe return.
“A piece of my heart is missing right now,” Robinson said. “All we have left is hope.”
Brooks is described as 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes.
Police said she was last seen wearing brown furry boots, a hat, a red zip-up sweatshirt and gray sweatpants.
Her black Infiniti QX50 has California license plate 9SBB134.
Anyone with information about Brooks’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Fairfield Police Department at 707-428-7300 or email case26-7208@fairfield.ca.gov.
