HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (BFMG) — Huntsville police are asking for the public’s help locating 25-year-old Lazarus Howard III, who has been missing for more than a month.
Howard’s mother said in a Facebook post that she last spoke with her son on July 10 and believes he was picked up the next morning before 10 a.m. He has not been heard from since.
Police said in an Aug. 18 news release that Howard was reported missing on July 19. Investigators said there is no indication he returned to his home on Lawson Ridge Drive. He does not have a registered vehicle and is not known to drive regularly, according to police.
Howard was entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System on July 22. Investigators said he left his vehicle and cat behind, and his phone has been powered off. Huntsville police have not responded to requests for clarification about the discrepancies in the timeline.
Nicki Marker of WHNT 19 spoke with Howard’s family, who are pleading with the community to come forward with any detail that might help. They said even the smallest bit of information could be vital in finding him.
Family members describe Howard as a brother, grandson, cousin and friend with “a caring heart who would help anyone in need.”
Howard is described as a Black male, 5-foot-6 and 133 pounds, with dreadlocks. He has a red tattoo on his neck, sleeve tattoos on both arms, and a tattoo across his abdomen that reads “Only the Strong Survive.” He was last seen wearing a black top.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Huntsville Area Crime Stoppers or Investigator Brett McCulley at (256) 746-4133 or brettmcculley@huntsvilleal.gov.
