SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. (BFMG) — The husband of a Redding mother who vanished more than 15 months ago has been arrested for her murder, Shasta County officials announced Friday.
During a joint press conference, the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office and Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Tyler McCain, the husband of 39-year-old Nikki Cheng Saelee McCain, faces one count of murder with a special circumstance of intent to prevent testimony. Prosecutors also refiled domestic violence charges from a 2023 case.
Nikki McCain was reported missing by her sister on May 22, 2024, after she was last seen leaving Mercy Medical Center in Redding on May 17. Her vehicle was discovered abandoned near the Shasta/Tehama County border on May 25, with blood and decomposition evidence later confirmed to belong to her.
Authorities said a confidential informant reported that Tyler McCain admitted to killing his wife following a domestic violence incident on May 18, 2024. Investigators uncovered a documented history of domestic violence between the couple dating back to 2020.
Despite extensive searches, Nikki’s body has not been found. Investigators, however, have concluded she is the victim of a homicide.
