GREENVILLE, S.C. (BFMG) – Authorities have arrested a second suspect in connection to the 2021 murder of Christina Parcell, as testimony in the trial of Zachary Hughes continues to unfold.
The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) confirmed that 64-year-old John Joey Mello was taken into custody at approximately 1:30 p.m. at his residence on Blake Street by members of the Fugitive Apprehension Specialized Investigations Team.
Mello is facing charges of accessory before the fact to a felony and solicitation to commit a felony. He has been transported to the Greenville County Detention Center, where he will await a bond hearing.
The arrest stems from open court testimony and existing evidence presented during the ongoing trial of Zachary Hughes, who is accused of brutally murdering Parcell in October 2021. Hughes’ trial has revealed a complex web of connections between multiple individuals involved in Parcell’s life, and prosecutors have argued that the murder was carefully orchestrated.
Authorities have not yet released further details on Mello’s alleged role in the crime, but the charges indicate that investigators believe he played a critical role in planning or facilitating the murder before it took place.
As the trial continues, BFMG will provide further updates on Mello’s court proceedings and any additional developments in the case.
