BIRMINGHAM, Ala.(BFMG) — A Georgia man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the 2024 death of Deundray Cottrell, Birmingham police announced.
Julian Taylor Morris, (33), of Jonesboro, Georgia, was taken into custody Monday, September 14th, by the U.S. Marshals Service in Miami, Florida.
Morris is charged with murder in Cottrell’s death and will be held without bond, according to Birmingham police. He is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami while awaiting extradition to Alabama.
Cottrell was reported missing on July 4, 2024 from a residence located in the 7900 block of 4th Avenue South. His body was found two days later, on July 6, in Birmingham’s East Precinct area. Authorities later ruled his death a homicide.
Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett said the arrest demonstrates the department’s commitment to continuing investigations even years after a violent crime occurs.
“This arrest, as well as the other arrest on cases from previous years, show how relentless our department is and how dedicated our officers are,” Pickett said. “We never stop working for justice.”
Pickett said investigators would continue pursuing suspects regardless of where they travel and remain committed to seeking justice for Cottrell and his family.
Police did not immediately release additional details about what investigators believe led to Cottrell’s death or the evidence that resulted in Morris being charged.
