LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. BFMG) — An 18-year-old Kentucky woman and her best friend were fatally shot by her boyfriend in an apparent murder-suicide as she tried to end their relationship, authorities said.
The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that James Priddy, 21, shot and killed his girlfriend, Jadeance Hale, 18, and her friend, Lila Asher, 19, on June 6 before turning the gun on himself.
Deputies said they had received a report of a possible domestic violence situation after three people left a home to get something to eat and their parents became concerned. At some point, Asher contacted her family and said they were stopping at Priddy’s home, which relatives said was never part of the plan.
WKYT reported that a woman called 911, sobbing as she expressed fear for her daughter, who was in a car with a man and his girlfriend and said the man would not let anyone leave. The station said it chose not to air the audio because of its sensitive nature.
Investigators said Hale planned to break up with Priddy and that Asher was accompanying her for support.
According to the sheriff’s office, officers later found the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver did not pull over, leading to a pursuit from Knox County into Laurel County. When the chase ended, deputies found the bodies of Priddy, Hale and Asher inside the car.
A GoFundMe campaign has been created to help cover funeral expenses for Hale and Asher.
