HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (BFMG) — The man accused of carrying out Huntsville’s first homicide of 2025 has been granted bond, further igniting concerns over escalating violence in the city. WAFF first reported that 25-year-old Allen Henderson, who is charged with the murder of his father, Jalil Mohammad, was indeed granted bond by a judge last month.

As previously reported, Mohammad was shot and killed on January 16 on Oakdale Terrace, just hours after he was released from the Madison County Jail on a DUI charge. Police swiftly identified Henderson as the primary suspect in the deadly shooting, leading to his arrest. Henderson was originally held in the Madison County Jail without bond as he awaited an Aniah’s Law hearing. He faces charges of homicide—murder of a family member with a firearm in a domestic violence case. On January 23, his attorney filed a motion arguing that Henderson’s “due process rights” had been violated, citing Alabama Code §15-13-3, and requested a bond be set.

Court documents show that during the Aniah’s Law hearing on January 24, Madison County District Judge Donna S. Pate reviewed the evidence and ultimately granted Henderson a $60,000 bond. WHNT states that as a condition of his release, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm while out on bond. A decision leaving many questioning the city’s judicial process and what it means for the public’s safety in Huntsville.

According to WHNT, court records revealed that a Madison County District Court Judge scheduled a preliminary hearing for Allen Henderson on February 19, 2025.

Huntsville, Ala. (BFMG) — A tragic shooting on Oakdale Terrace has left one family mourning the loss of 46-year-old Jalil Mohammad, who was fatally shot on January 16, 2025. Huntsville police have arrested Mohammad’s son, Allen David James Henderson, 25, who now faces a murder charge. He took the stand on Friday where more details were revealed in what led up to the deadly event.

Incident Overview

As reported by WAFF 48, Huntsville Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in progress at the 2700 block of Oakdale Terrace around 10 p.m on Thursday Jan. 16. Upon arrival, they found Mohammad deceased from a gunshot wound. Madison County Coroner Dr. Tyler Berryhill confirmed that Mohammad’s death was ruled a homicide.

Family members revealed heartbreaking details to Kalee Kniess from WAFF 48 about Mohammad’s final moments. His sister, Viola Henderson, shared that her brother’s last words, captured on a home security camera, were: “Please don’t do this in front of my kids.” Mohammad had been released from Madison County Jail shortly before the shooting after being booked on a DUI charge. He was the father of five children and ran his own home improvement company.

Arrest and Testimony

Huntsville police arrested Allen Henderson on January 18, charging him with murder. During a court hearing on January 24, Henderson admitted to shooting his father. Investigator Jeff Kreiter testified that Henderson initially claimed he was out getting food at the time of the shooting but later admitted to the crime during a second interview. He also revealed that Henderson had hidden the firearm under a porch cushion.

The testimony further detailed that the shooting occurred following an argument. Mohammad reportedly returned home late from jail and found his 11-year-old son still awake. After scolding the child for being up, Henderson became angry and retrieved a gun, shooting his father once in the back.

Legal Proceedings

Henderson remains in the Madison County Jail without bond. His defense attorney, Larry Marsili, emphasized to WAFF 48 the importance of due process. “Allow the case to develop and let the process take its course, and then afford Mr. Henderson the same rights that everybody has which is that same right to be presumed not guilty until the state can prove otherwise” Marsili said. The court has not yet ruled on whether Henderson will be granted bond, with a decision expected within 48 hours of the hearing.

As the investigation continues, the Huntsville community grapples with the tragedy of a father’s life cut short and the troubling circumstances surrounding his death at the same time, a family attempts to make sense and move forward from a horrific event.
