FLORENCE, Ala. (BFMG) — A Florence man has been charged with murder in the death of a missing woman whose remains are believed to have been found on his property.
Logan Rogers, 28, is accused of killing 38-year-old Autumn Paige Strickland, who was last seen May 16 near the Stricklin Hotel on North Court Street. Strickland had been reported missing the following day, prompting the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency to issue a missing and endangered alert.
Investigators now say Strickland was killed on May 17. According to court records obtained by our outlet, Rogers intentionally struck her with his vehicle twice and later returned to the scene with a pickup truck to retrieve her body.
Detectives say video evidence supports that Rogers hit Strickland once, circled around, and struck her again. Roughly 30 minutes later, he is seen placing what authorities believe was her body into a truck. Strickland’s cell phone was recovered at the location where she was hit.
A search warrant executed at Rogers’ home on North Wood Street on May 20 led police to a burn barrel containing human remains. Authorities believe those remains belong to Strickland, though forensic confirmation is pending.
Rogers was previously arrested on charges of making a terrorist threat and domestic violence against his parents earlier this year in Marion County. His mother had obtained a protection from abuse order, describing her son as unstable and violent according to AL.com.
At a bond hearing held under Aniah’s Law, Rogers was denied release. In his ruling, Lauderdale County District Judge Will Motlow wrote, “Due to the brutal nature of the alleged offense and the defendant’s history of domestic violence, the court finds that no conditions or set of conditions can adequately ensure the safety of the public.”
Strickland leaves behind a young daughter. The nature of her relationship to the suspect has not been disclosed.
A preliminary hearing for Rogers is set for July 14 at 9 a.m.
