YORK COUNTY, S.C. (BFMG) — A 19-year-old woman was shot and killed outside her South Carolina home Saturday night following days of reported gunfire incidents, with investigators now providing additional details about the response and timeline.
Officers responded around 11 p.m. to a residence on Mount Gallant Road near Anderson Road, where Camariya Tidwell was found with a fatal gunshot wound according to the York County Coroner’s Office.
Investigators identified the suspect as 34-year-old Sean Xavier Hubbard of Clover. He was taken into custody early Sunday at a home on Fig Branch Road following a SWAT-assisted operation. Authorities said he was arrested without incident and remains jailed without bond.
Hubbard is charged with murder and weapons violations. He is also accused of firing into the same home during an earlier incident when it was unoccupied.
According to officials, the first reported shooting occurred Tuesday around 9 p.m., when the home was struck by gunfire while family members — including children — were inside. A report was taken at the time, but the family initially provided a different name for a potential suspect. The case was assigned to a violent crimes investigator who was not available to begin work until Friday.
That investigator began following up on leads Friday and attempted to locate the potential suspect, authorities said.
On Saturday around 8:30 p.m., deputies responded to another call of shots fired into the home while no one was inside. Lt. Michael Chavis said approximately eight officers responded and began searching the area for a gray sedan described by witnesses.
Officers reviewed home surveillance footage, and with additional information from the family, were able to identify Hubbard as a suspect. Law enforcement agencies coordinated efforts to locate him, including checking a previous address with assistance from another agency.
Authorities said an officer remained in the area until at least 10 p.m., as the family prepared to leave the home out of fear for their safety.
Less than an hour later, deputies were called back to the residence after reports of another shooting. Investigators said family members had gathered in the front yard when Hubbard allegedly approached the home on foot by moving through adjacent properties.
According to authorities, he ran along the side of the house and fired the fatal shot before fleeing in a vehicle.
Family members told WCNC Charlotte they had been living in fear for days leading up to the shooting.
“For a week straight, he stalked my family’s home,” said Caleb Tidwell, the victim’s brother.
Relatives said the conflict began after Hubbard had been hired through social media to work on a family member’s car, and tensions escalated when that family member ended the arrangement.
After earlier incidents, the family installed security cameras, which police said played a key role in identifying the suspect.
Hubbard was located Sunday at a previously known address and taken into custody. He later appeared for a bond hearing and was denied release.
Tidwell’s family described her as kind and compassionate.
The investigation remains ongoing and this story is developing.
