NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BFMG) — A 24-year-old man is charged with criminal homicide after police say he fired the shot that killed a 12-year-old boy during a fight in downtown Nashville on Sunday night.
Metro Nashville police said officers responded to the 400 block of Union Street, near Union Terrace, where they found 12-year-old Damarion Morehead with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in extremely critical condition and later died from his injury.
Investigators said a group of about 10 to 15 teenagers had gathered in the area for what appeared to be a planned fight when shots were fired and Morehead was struck.
Detectives detained several people believed to be involved in the altercation before identifying 24-year-old Devin Orr as the suspected shooter. Orr was located early Monday at a residence on Fisk Street and taken into custody, according to police.
As of Monday morning, Orr was being held on a criminal homicide charge. No bond had been set.
