ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (BFMG) — Authorities are investigating a reported armed robbery and assault that left a man seriously injured Tuesday evening in Anderson County.
Deputies with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched just before 6 p.m. to Station Drive after receiving a 911 call reporting an assault in a parking lot. When deputies arrived, they found several people rendering aid to an injured man.
The victim was transported to a hospital with serious injuries and remains hospitalized as he recovers, officials said.
Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and are following leads to identify those responsible. The sheriff’s office has not released suspect information and described the case as an active investigation.
While authorities have not officially confirmed the victim’s identity, a community fundraiser circulating online identifies the man as Chris Holdt, described as a homeless individual known in the Anderson community. The fundraiser alleges Holdt was attacked and beaten by a group of teenagers near the former Sears location around the time of the incident.
Law enforcement has not publicly confirmed those details, including the number of suspects or their ages.
Cody and Makayla Carroll of Anderson saw a post circulating on social media of the details surrounding the incident and felt compelled to step in to help. The couple created a GoFundMe raising over $5,000 and are working with the victim advocate in the case to ensure the funds go directly to Holdt.
They say they hope the community continues to show its support in other ways to ensure this never happens to him again and in hopes of turning this tragedy into triumph. They both say hearing what happened to Holdt really broke their hearts, but they’re very thankful for the support the fundraiser has received.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information, including video, photos or surveillance footage, to come forward as the investigation continues. You may report any information to ACSO by calling 864-260-4444
Officials said updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
