COLUMBIA, S.C. (BFMG) — A Columbia man who had been reported missing after leaving his home Aug. 22 has been found safe, according to the Columbia Police Department (CPD).
Police said Keith Lynch was located after a concerned citizen spotted him along Shop Road and contacted law enforcement. A Columbia police officer responded to the area and was flagged down by the citizen, leading officers to Lynch.
The department has canceled the BOLO that had been issued for Lynch.
Police said no firearms were found in Lynch’s possession when he was located. Lynch voluntarily requested mental health assistance and is being transported to the Department of Veterans Affairs for care.
Lynch, a military veteran, was previously reported missing after he was last seen leaving his residence in the 1800 block of Enoree Avenue on Aug. 22. At the time, family members had expressed concerns about his well-being, and police said a weapon had been reported missing from the residence.
Surveillance footage had shown Lynch leaving the area wearing a red shirt, black shorts and black Crocs while carrying what appeared to be a black duffle bag. Police had urged members of the public not to approach him and instead contact law enforcement if he was spotted.
The Columbia Police Department thanked the citizen who recognized Lynch and contacted authorities, as well as members of the public who shared the BOLO and assisted in the search.
The department said Lynch was safely located and is receiving assistance.
