SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (BFMG) — A Mississippi woman has been charged after police said they discovered her daughter’s remains in a Southaven apartment.
Cynthia Clemons, 40, was arrested and charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult and tampering with evidence, according to authorities.
Police said officers responded to a welfare check about 9:35 p.m. Tuesday at an apartment complex after a man reported he had not seen his sister since January. During the investigation, officers said they received conflicting information about the whereabouts of Clemons’ daughter, 19-year-old Mykryra Clemons, who investigators said was disabled and unable to care for herself.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for the apartment, where they said they found what they believe to be Mykryra Clemons’ remains. Neighbors said the discovery left the complex in shock according to WITN.
“It’s just sad for the children around here to witness something like that. It’s just a tragic situation. We’re praying for the family,” Joeli, a nearby resident told WITN
Officials said additional charges may be filed pending autopsy results.
