GREENVILLE, S.C. (BFMG) — A suspect is dead following an officer-involved shooting early Sunday morning in Greenville County, according to Sheriff Hobart Lewis of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a call at 6 Kmart Plaza around 2:15 a.m., where they encountered a suspect who, according to authorities, presented a weapon to officers. Deputies opened fire, striking the suspect.
The individual was transported to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to their injuries.
“There is no threat to the public and no deputies were injured,” Lewis said in a statement.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and the sheriff’s office’s Office of Professional Standards are conducting routine investigations into the incident, which is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings.
Authorities have not released the identity of the suspect, and no further details were immediately available. The Sheriff’s Office indicated more information would be provided on Jan. 7, 2025.
