PADUCAH, Ky. (BFMG) – The Paducah Police Department is mourning the loss of Sgt. Ryan Hudson, who died unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 12, following complications from an underlying cardiac condition.
During a news conference Friday, Aug. 15, Police Chief Brian Laird said Hudson’s death has been classified as a line-of-duty death under federal regulations of the Public Safety Officers Benefit Program.
Hudson, who joined the department in 2015, had recently served as a supervisor during the investigation of a nightclub shooting that left a pregnant woman dead and two other women injured. Chief Laird said the stress of that response triggered Hudson’s condition.
“Ryan had an outstanding career and was deeply dedicated to this department and community,” Laird said.
Over his 10 years of service, Hudson worked as a patrol officer, DARE officer, SWAT team member, training officer and detective. He was promoted to sergeant in May and also served on the department’s honor guard, where he assisted with funerals for fallen officers according to KFVS.
Department members expressed condolences to Hudson’s family, friends and all who knew him. An employee support fund has been created to assist his family, and donations may be made through a dedicated account set up by the department.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Paducah Tilghman High School. The funeral service will follow on Saturday, Aug. 23, at Heartland Church. The public may begin arriving at 10 a.m., with the service set for 11 a.m.
