HAMMOND, La. (BFMG) — Hammond Police Department officers are investigating a shooting that killed a 50-year-old woman early Thursday at a Chevron parking lot.
Officers responded to the Chevron at 3123 Highway 190 West around 1:15 a.m. Thursday and found Patricia Sheppard, who had been shot, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Sheppard was getting a ride to work when the shooting occurred, authorities said.
Approximately 70 to 80 gunshots were fired into the victim’s vehicle, police said.
HPD investigators said security camera footage showed a gray sedan and a white sedan parked at gas pumps across from each other. Two people wearing dark clothes and “armed with appeared to be AR-style pistols” got out of the white sedan and allegedly fired shots at the back passenger side of the gray sedan, police said.
The victim was sitting in the gray sedan at the time of the shooting, authorities said.
HPD officials said the suspects returned to the white sedan and continued shooting at the gray sedan before fleeing the scene.
On Friday, the HPD identified the suspect vehicle as a white 2008 four-door Honda Civic with a Mississippi license plate PJY050. According to police the vehicle no longer has a front window on the passenger side.
