SPARTANBURG, S.C. (BFMG)— A 62-year-old Spartanburg resident, Ian Mitchell Farnsworth, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexual misconduct involving minors, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.
On September 13, 2024, Spartanburg County Special Victims Unit investigators assisted the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina by serving two felony warrants for indecent liberties with a minor on Farnsworth at his residence on Chaffee Road. This arrest led to the discovery of additional alleged offenses in Spartanburg County.
Subsequently, on September 25, 2024, Farnsworth was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor in Spartanburg County. He was released to home detention on October 22, 2024, but violated the terms of his detention the following day.
Further investigation uncovered another minor victim. During a forensic interview at the Children’s Advocacy Center, the victim disclosed ongoing sexual abuse by Farnsworth within the past year. As a result, on November 7, 2024, Farnsworth was charged with one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
Farnsworth is currently held without bond at the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
Authorities urge anyone who may be a victim or has information about additional victims to contact Investigator Sarah Arms at sarms@spartanburgcounty.org or 864-503-4534. There is no statute of limitations on sex offenses in South Carolina.
