PIEDMONT, S.C. (BFMG) — The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office has identified Malcolm Niven, 42, as the suspect involved in Thursday morning’s barricade situation on Pine Court in Piedmont. Authorities responded to the scene just after 8 a.m. following reports of a domestic assault involving Niven and his parents, including his bedridden mother.
According to officials, Niven assaulted both parents before barricading himself inside a bedroom. As deputies worked to manage the situation, they deployed a drone to surveil the bedroom window. Niven reportedly grabbed the drone and submerged it in bathwater, disabling it.
Deputies successfully removed Niven’s parents from the home unharmed. During the standoff, Niven allegedly fired shots at deputies, prompting officers to deploy tear gas into the house.
Following the gas deployment, Niven fired four rounds at deputes. Nearly 30 minutes later, Niven reportedly falls down stairs where he sustained a head injury. He was transported to a hospital for medical treatment before being taken into custody.
Niven now faces multiple charges, including assault, firing at law enforcement officers, and malicious damage.
The investigation remains ongoing.
