OPELIKA, Ala. (BFMG) — The wife of Lee County Sheriff-elect Cam Hunt was arrested on a domestic violence charge, according to Opelika police.
Opelika police confirmed that Aggie Kalyn Hunt, 36, was arrested on a charge of domestic violence in the third degree. Her bond was set at $1,000, and she was listed as having active bond status.
Hunt was booked into the Lee County Jail at midnight. Under Alabama law, domestic violence charges carry a mandatory 24-hour hold before an inmate can be released. She will be eligible for release at midnight tonight.
After the arrest, Cam Hunt released a statement calling the matter private and asking for privacy for his family.
“This is a private family matter involving people I love and care about deeply,” Hunt said. “Out of respect for everyone involved, I will not be discussing details publicly or engaging in speculation online.”
He said his children were fine and asked the public to avoid rumors.
“I understand there will naturally be commentary and rumors, but I would ask people to remember that my family deserves privacy, grace and dignity during a difficult moment,” Hunt said. “I also want people to know that I’m fine, the kids are fine and Kalyn is fine.”
Hunt said his focus remains on his family.
“While this situation has unfortunately become public, it is still a deeply personal matter for our family,” he said. “My focus right now is on my children, my family and moving forward appropriately. I appreciate the concern, prayers and support from those who have reached out.”
Although his wife has been charged, she has not been convicted. She is presumed innocent until proven gulity.
