NEW ORLEANS, La. (BFMG) — A suspect has been arrested in connection with the death of Adan Manzano, 27, a Kansas City reporter for Telemundo KC who was on assignment in New Orleans for the Super Bowl, authorities said Thursday.
Telemundo KC announced Feb. 6 that Manzano had died while covering the event. The investigation, which initially treated his case as a missing persons matter, has now shifted focus after evidence indicated foul play. Authorities confirmed that law enforcement officials have taken a suspect into custody, though details regarding the individual’s identity and involvement remain scarce.

Manzano, described by colleagues as a true professional and rising star, was remembered for his passion for sports and his commitment to the local community. “We will deeply miss Adan and his passion for sports, and the contributions he made to the local community,” said Steve Downing, general manager of KGKC Telemundo Kansas City. “Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
The tragedy has resonated beyond the newsroom. The Kansas Association of Broadcasters expressed its sorrow, stating, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Adan Manzano-Aguilar.” Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas also offered condolences, noting that “Adan was a cherished member of the Kansas City soccer community, and his legacy and impact will not be forgotten.”
Manzano’s untimely death comes amid personal tragedy. According to WIBW, a KCTV5 sister station, his wife, an elementary school teacher, died in a car crash in Topeka in April. The couple leaves behind one toddler.
As of 1 p.m. Thursday, the coroner’s office confirmed that Manzano’s autopsy is pending, and officials say additional details about the circumstances of his death remain limited. Law enforcement is asking anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
