GREENVILLE, S.C. (BFMG) — As recovery efforts persist in the aftermath of Storm Helene, many South Carolina and Western North Carolina residents remain unaccounted for, prompting authorities and local organizations to conduct welfare checks to check on loved ones. Families and friends are encouraged to report any missing loved ones and to share information through a newly launched community platform.
Blunt Force Media Group, a local media organization focused on supporting crime victims and their families, has created a Facebook group dedicated to locating missing persons affected by the storm. The group serves as a central hub for families to post photos, last known locations, and other vital information that could assist in the search.
“We know how devastating it is when loved ones go missing, especially after a disaster like Storm Helene,” said a Blunt Force Media representative. “Our goal is to help connect people, provide a platform to share information, and ultimately bring families some peace.”
In addition to the Facebook group, families and friends can submit information via email to helene@bluntforcemedia.com. Blunt Force Media has promised to coordinate closely with local authorities to ensure any credible leads are passed on to search teams and law enforcement.
Last Known Locations and Reporting Missing Persons
Authorities urge the public to report any missing individuals to local law enforcement as quickly as possible. Time is critical when locating people who may be in danger, particularly after a major weather event. Those who are unsure of their loved ones’ whereabouts can also post details in the Facebook group, providing information such as last known location, physical description, and any identifying characteristics.
Greenville County Sheriff’s Office dispatch tells us they are receiving an influx of calls are are conducting welfare checks as necessary.
Law enforcement and emergency responders continue to comb through affected areas, focusing on regions hardest hit by flooding, power outages, and road closures. However, some areas remain inaccessible due to storm damage, complicating rescue efforts.
Reuniting Families
The Facebook group, “Missing and Unaccounted People from Storm Helene,” has been activated to help locate and connect familes and individuals who are currently unaccounted for. Posts detail missing individuals from across the state, with family members sharing descriptions, photos, and contact information.
One post shared by Gregory Ammons of Columbia details the concern for his parents from Linville, NC where all roads are impassable along their route. “No power and cell phones are down for everyone” he wrote. He says he’s contact authorities in nearby Boone, North Carolina who is trying to get someone local to check on them.
Officials remind the public to stay patient and vigilant as search and rescue operations continue. They also encourage people to help spread the word by sharing the missing persons posts on social media.
How to Help
Members of the public who want to assist in the search for missing individuals are encouraged to join the Facebook group or share it with others who may have information. Anyone who may have been in contact with a missing person or has knowledge of their whereabouts should report the information immediately.
For those without access to Facebook, Blunt Force Media has set up an email address, helene@bluntforcemedia.com, where people can submit details, photos, or leads.
“We’re all in this together,” said Davis. “If you have information that could help, don’t hesitate to come forward.”
As the state recovers from Storm Helene’s destruction, the hope of reuniting families remains a top priority. Every shared post, email, and report brings search teams one step closer to bringing loved ones home.
