MOREHOUSE PARISH, La. (BFMG) — A 17-year-old Beekman Charter School student has been arrested after bomb threats were sent to the school on consecutive days, according to the Morehouse Parish Sheriff’s Office (MPSO).
Authorities said the threats were made on Wednesday, Jan. 22, and Thursday, Jan. 23. Investigators traced the threats back to Jordan Yates, 17, a student at the school.
The sheriff’s office conducted a search of Yates’ residence but found no bomb-making materials. Additionally, thorough searches of Beekman Charter School on both days revealed no bombs or suspicious items according to KNOE.
Yates has been charged with two counts of communicating false information of a planned bombing on school property.
Sheriff Mike Tubbs commended the efforts of MPSO investigators, patrol officers, Beekman Charter School staff, and the Bastrop and Beekman Fire Departments for their swift and coordinated response.
“No threats to our schools or students will be taken lightly,” Tubbs said, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety of all parish students.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released at this time.
