GAINESVILLE, Ga. (BFMG) — A Hall County couple is in jail after deputies say they tried to destroy methamphetamine in a toaster oven and one of them confronted investigators with a running chainsaw during a drug search at their home.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said deputies went to the home of Adam and Brittany Hollis on Wednesday to serve a search warrant as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation. Deputies found the husband and wife inside a shed on the property and told them they were conducting a lawful search.

Investigators at the scene said they learned Adam Hollis was inside the shed burning methamphetamine in a toaster oven in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence, while his wife tried to delay deputies from entering.

When deputies pushed through the shed door, Hollis moved toward them armed with a chainsaw that was running with the blade actively moving, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies ordered him to drop the chainsaw, and he complied. No injuries were reported.

As they continued searching the property, deputies said they found multiple types of narcotics packaged for sale, including about 23 grams of methamphetamine, 41 assorted pills — identified as alprazolam (Xanax), clonazepam (Klonopin), oxycodone and acetaminophen — and less than 1 ounce of marijuana.

Deputies also searched the home on the property, where they found the couple’s child, younger than 14, alone inside. According to the sheriff’s office, the house had no power and all the floors, including the child’s bedroom, were covered in excrement.

Both Adam and Brittany Hollis face multiple felony charges, including possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, sale of methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of a Schedule II drug with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, possession of a Schedule IV drug with intent to distribute, tampering with evidence and second-degree child cruelty.

The sheriff’s office said Adam Hollis also faces a charge of aggravated assault on an officer. Brittany Hollis faces additional charges of misdemeanor possession of marijuana and felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

As of Monday morning, both Adam and Brittany Hollis were being held at the Hall County Jail.
