Atlanta, GA (BFMG) — Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr told NBC his office is “horrified” by the ongoing active shooter situation on or near Emory University’s campus and is “praying for the safety of the entire campus community.”
“We stand ready to assist our law enforcement partners with whatever they may need,” Carr said in a statement.
The Atlanta Police Department confirmed officers are on the scene investigating the incident. Police said information is still being gathered as the situation continues to unfold.
A dispatcher with Emory’s Office of Critical Event Preparedness and Response said there was no additional information to provide while the incident remains active.
In a social media alert, the university’s preparedness office reported an active shooter at Emory Point near a CVS and urged the community to take immediate action.
“RUN, HIDE, FIGHT. Avoid the area,” the alert read.
Emory University’s main campus is located just minutes from the headquarters of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. It was not immediately clear whether the university or the CDC was a target.
