HUNTSVILLE, AL (BFMG) – The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) is intensifying its investigation into the disappearance of Ronald Leslie Dumas Jr., who has been missing for over a month.
Dumas, 37, was last seen on Dec. 15, 2024. His vehicle was found abandoned on I-40 in Camden, Tennessee, the following day. A week later, on Dec. 23, he was officially added to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Missing Persons List.
Since then, HPD has focused on piecing together Dumas’ final known movements and gathering information about his background. According to HPD, the investigation has gained traction, but resolving the case may require considerable time.
Extensive Investigation Underway
To date, investigators have filed 36 affidavits to obtain records related to Dumas’ background, with 24 yielding some degree of information. While some responses have provided actionable leads, others have prompted additional legal efforts.
Dumas’ car, impounded on Dec. 16, has undergone three forensic examinations. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) conducted the initial search, followed by two more inspections by HPD investigators and crime scene specialists. Despite these thorough efforts, no evidence has been found to indicate that Dumas was forcibly removed from the vehicle.
Timeline of Events
On Dec. 15, Dumas was captured on security footage entering a liquor store on University Drive in Huntsville with two women. He was seen leaving the store with them shortly afterward and appeared to be in no distress.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been consulted to analyze Dumas’ cell phone location data. The most recent information suggests his phone was traveling south from Memphis, Tennessee, on Dec. 21, though no further details have been released.
No Evidence of Abduction or Danger
HPD has stated there is currently no evidence to suggest Dumas is in danger or was abducted. Investigators continue to follow leads and urge the public to come forward with any information that could help locate him.
