CINCINNATI (BFMG) — Attorneys representing the family of 18-year-old Ryan Hinton are providing new details about the hours between his fatal shooting by Cincinnati police on Thursday and the deadly crash involving his father, Rodney Hinton Jr., less than 27 hours later.
According to police, Ryan Hinton was shot and killed around 10 a.m. Thursday in East Price Hill after allegedly pointing a firearm at officers during a foot chase. Authorities say the chase began after officers located a stolen Kia in a Warsaw Avenue apartment complex lot. Hinton and three other individuals allegedly fled the vehicle, and body camera footage released Friday captured the moments leading to the shooting.
Roughly 27 hours later, at about 1 p.m. Friday, Rodney Hinton Jr., 38, allegedly struck and killed a Hamilton County sheriff’s deputy at the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Burnet Woods Drive, near the University of Cincinnati, where commencement ceremonies were underway.

The Cochran Firm, which is representing the Hinton family, released a statement Saturday offering new insight into the events leading up to the deadly crash. Attorneys say Rodney Hinton Jr. had just left a meeting with Cincinnati police where family members were shown body camera footage of the incident that resulted in Ryan Hinton’s death.
According to the statement, the family was “distraught” during the meeting, and Hinton Jr. left the gathering alone in his vehicle. The next update came when authorities announced the fatal crash involving a sheriff’s deputy.
The family is being represented by attorneys Michael Wright, Shean Williams and Robert Gresham of The Cochran Firm, along with Anthony Pierson of Pierson and Pierson, LLC, as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Ryan Hinton’s death.
Rodney Hinton Jr. has been charged with aggravated murder and is being held without bond. An investigation into both incidents remains ongoing.
"Our firm was hired by members of Ryan Hinton's family to conduct an investigation into his shooting death by an officer with the Cincinnati Police Department. We are in the preliminary stages of that investigation." "Yesterday, we attended a meeting between the family and members of the Cincinnati Police Department to view body camera video of Ryan Hinton's shooting death.
"Ryan Hinton's family, including Ryan's father, was present at the meeting and they were understandably distraught as they watched the bodycam video. After the meeting with the police department, Ryan Hinton's father left in his own vehicle and that was the last we heard from him until learning about the tragic incident involving a law enforcement officer who was working a traffic detail near the University of Cincinnati."
"On behalf of Ryan Hinton's family, we offer our heartfelt condolences to the family and colleagues of the officer who was killed yesterday."
"This is an unimaginable tragedy for this community. Ryan Hinton's family is heartbroken by this tragic turn of events and we are all devastated for the family of the officer who was killed."Hinton Family Attorneys
