COLUMBIA, SC (BFMG) — A South Carolina dancer with Broadway experience is missing, and his family and friends are searching for answers. Zelig Williams, 28, of Richland County, was last seen leaving his home on Longview Road in the Lower Richland community around 9:50 a.m. on Thursday, October 3. Since then, neither he nor his vehicle has been spotted until recently when his car was found near Congaree National Park.
Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD) officials reported that Williams’ car, which contained his personal belongings, was located in a parking lot at the Wateree Passage of the Palmetto Trail, near U.S. 601 and Bluff Road. The discovery of the vehicle, approximately 23 miles from his home, has left family members worried and puzzled, as this remote location is not one that Williams frequents according to Callie Lyons of FITS News.
Susan Hancock, Williams’ former ballet instructor, shared her concerns over his disappearance. “He loves his friends and family and stays in touch often,” Hancock said. “He’s such a talented kid, such a sweet, sweet person, and a beautiful choreographer.” FITS News reported.
Friends and family are especially concerned because Williams, known for his roles in Hamilton and MJ the Musical as well as touring with Hugh Jackman, is said to have a medical condition that may require medication. He recently returned to Columbia after performing on national stages and was baptized shortly after his homecoming, using his social media to share his faith and discuss mental health from a Biblical perspective.
Williams’ announced publicly on Facebook, he was diagnosed with Schizophrenia around 7 years ago and asked for prayers as he was “having a hard time being here” he stated.
Williams’ disappearance is out of character, as he typically maintains close contact with loved ones. With nearly 72 hours gone without word, family members are urging the public to be on the lookout. Performers from The Southern Strutt, his home dance studio, are planning to gather at the trailhead area where his car was found, hoping to uncover clues to his whereabouts.
Anyone who knows Zelig’s whereabouts is asked to call the Richland County Sheriff’s Department – or call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or visit Crimedesk.tips.
