AIKEN, S.C. (BFMG) — The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office announced the arrest of South Carolina Attorney, William Daniel Mayes, charged with multiple counts each of sexual exploitation of minor(s) and voyeurism.
A CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) led investigators to Mayes, whom they discovered recorded a person without their knowledge and possessed files of child sexual abuse materials (CSAM).
in a press release, the SC Attorney General’s Office says “Mayes was arrested on October 29, 2024. He is charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, third degree (§16-15-410), a felony offense punishable by up to ten years imprisonment on each count; and two counts of voyeurism (§16-17-470(B)), a misdemeanor offense punishable by up to 3 years imprisonment for a first offense on each count.
Subsequently following his arrest, Mayes’ law license was suspended indefinitely on November 1, by order from the Supreme Court of South Carolina.
The Aiken Standard uncovered an incident report from Deputy John Sullivan Jr. who said authorities executed a search warrant on a Dropbox account admittedly associated to Mayes, where they located four videos.
- One video shows a teenage girl — Sullivan estimated her age to be between 12 and 14 — dressing, Sullivan said in an Oct. 29 arrest warrant.
- Another video shows another girl — Sullivan estimated her age to between eight and 10 — fully nude, Sullivan said in another arrest warrant.
- The third video shows a teenage girl, estimated to between 12-14, without a shirt, Sullivan said in a third warrant.
- The fourth video shows a man kneeling on top of a teenage girl, estimated to be between 12-14, Sullivan said. The video also allegedly shows evidence of sexual activity involving the two, Sullivan implied.
Deputies executed a search warrant at his Town Creek Road property where deputies located, an external hard drive with a video depicting a teenage girl, estimated to be between 12-14, dressing, Sullivan said.
We’re told Mayes allegedly admitted to possessing the files and setting up a camera to record the videos.
