SMYRNA, Ga. (BFMG) — A man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in Smyrna, Georgia, was arrested Thursday, Oct. 8, after police responded to a report of suspects breaking into vehicles.
Trey Webb, who had been wanted on a murder warrant since July 31, was taken into custody by the Smyrna Police Department (SPD) following a nearly three-month search.
According to police, the investigation began July 28, when officers responded to a reported single-vehicle crash in the 3000 block of Atlanta Road. Upon arriving, officers discovered a man inside the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound.
Investigators determined the man’s death was connected to a homicide investigation and obtained a murder warrant for Webb on July 31.
Since that time, Smyrna police and multiple law enforcement agencies had been actively searching for Webb.
The search came to an end Thursday when officers responded to the 1800 block of Spring Road following reports of individuals breaking into vehicles.
Police said officers arrived within three minutes of receiving the call and encountered two men allegedly entering vehicles.
One of those men was identified as Webb, who was immediately taken into custody on the outstanding murder warrant. Police said Webb also faces additional charges related to the incident.
The Smyrna Police Department credited the quick response of its officers for the arrest.
Authorities also confirmed that the family of the July shooting victim had been notified of Webb’s arrest. Investigators acknowledged the family’s continued support and cooperation throughout the investigation.
Police have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the July shooting, the identity of the victim, or the specific additional charges Webb faces.
The investigation remains ongoing.
