PALM DESERT, Calif. (BFMG) — A 65-year-old Palm Desert woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after deputies found a person fatally injured in an apparent assault, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO).

Deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station responded around 9:47 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, to an “unknown trouble” call in the 35000 block of Gateway Drive.

When deputies arrived, they found a person suffering from traumatic injuries that investigators said were consistent with a physical assault. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene according to a press release.

Detectives with the Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded and took over the investigation.

Authorities identified 65-year-old Vicky Kim of Palm Desert as the suspect. Investigators said Kim was located at the scene and taken into custody without incident.

She was later booked into the John Benoit Detention Center on a murder charge.

Authorities have not released the victim’s name pending notification of next of kin. Investigators also have not disclosed what may have led to the deadly encounter or provided additional details about the circumstances surrounding the assault.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Central Homicide Unit Investigator Chua at 951-955-1700 or Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station Investigator Mitroff at 760-836-1600.
